English
Our class is enjoying the novel Beetle Boy by M G Leonard and because it is such an interesting text, most of our English activities revolve around it. We have particularly enjoyed researching our own beetles and creating a prezi presentation that we have delivered to the class. Some of us have enjoyed listening to speeches more than delivering them! We appreciate the feedback that our classmates give about our presentation as it helps build our confidence and we can take it on board to develop goals for the next speaking opportunity. In the coming weeks we look forward to creating our own short novel by creating original characters and using suspense and tension just like M G Leonard does so well.
Maths
In Maths, we like to get our brains sweaty and learn new things. Sometimes it can be tricky, but we are learning that there are lots of different strategies that we can use to solve maths problems. We particularly like hands on and real-world problem-solving activities. This term we are building our multiplicative strategies, which means we are working on manipulating numbers in multiplication and division problems so that we can efficiently solve them. sometimes this involves breaking the problem down, or using what we know to help us solve something bigger. We have started by learning about the Order of Operations and what we need to do first in BIG equations with more than one operation (+, -, x, ÷).
PDHPE
For PDH we are building our knowledge of different emotions and how they impact on others and ourselves. We are learning about techniques to help us relax, which supports our ability to focus on our learning. We have explored our strengths and weakness and acknowledged that we all have different strengths.
For PE and sport we focus on developing our fundamental movement skills through team sport activities. We particularly enjoy soccer and tee-ball. We love getting outdoors and understand how being active helps us keep our mind and body healthy while improving our skills. Our class strives to show great sportsmanship each week and this is often seen through the students who represent in school and town teams encouraging and helping out students who are new to the sport.
